Fountain of As Buliqueiras
A fountain with ferruginous water in a spectacular natural landscape.
The fountain is in the Fraga das Boliqueiras (or Buliqueiras). It is closely linked to the history of the village of As Pontes because of its waters. These are medicinal mineral waters and were considered adequate for curing diseases such as tuberculosis or anaemia. The water has a great amount of iron.
This place was quite famous during the 19th and 20th centuries, what derived in thermal tourism. People from Ferrol and near areas would come and stay at inns in As Pontes.
In 1902 a road was built to communicate the centre of As Pontes with the fountain. That road included an improvement in the surroundings, with stairs. The fountain has a front made of granite dating earlier than 1902.
The fountain is located in a forest, surrounded by different types of plants, including bushes such as blueberries and St Patrick’s cabbage (Saxifraga spathularis). There are also several kinds of fern.
To get there, go in the direction of the industrial area of Os Airíos, and there take the road to Momán (DP-7001). Before the shooting range field in Pena da Revolta there is a sign indicating the access to the fountain.
