Chapel of Pena de Francia

Chapel of Pena de Francia

A chapel related to many legends in the heart of the magnificent borest of Solloso.
The chapel is located inside the beautiful forest in Solloso. The temple was founded in the 17th century by the counts of Montenegro, miming the monastery of Our Lady of Peñafrancia in Salamanca. It was reformed between 1929 and 1931, and from the original building two elements are kept: the covered three-sloped portico leaning on two wide circular pillars, and also from the original structure is the small refurbished bell gable. Inside the chapel we can admire a neogothic altarpiece with the old statue of Pena de Francia.

The monastery keeps lots of legends and stories. One of them talks about the three virgin sisters of A Faladoira, each one with an own chapel under their names. These are the chapels of the Virgin of Portas (in Devesos, Ortigueira), Pena de Francia, and Merlán, each one with their back to the others.
