Praza de América (America Square)

Praza de América (America Square)

The square with a name after those who emigrated to Cuba and promoted a school for a better future of children in As Pontes.
The square is located in the surroundings of the school Santa María, which was built thanks to the work of emigrants of As Pontes in Havana at the end of the 1920s. It occupies a central space in the urban area and its construction was parallel to the building of the school financed by the emigrants. The contribution of the Beneficence and Leisure Society for people from As Pontes de García Rodríguez, belonging to the Council, led to the naming of this square as Plaza de América and the adjoining street as Paseo de los Americanos.

The square is also known as Praza Roxa due to the redish coating it had and which disappeared with the complete remodeling of the square in 2023.
