Monument to Memory

Monument to Memory

A window to look at everything that existed and disappeared with the mine.
A Casilla is on the bank of the Lake of As Pontes. It was long time the border between the town and the lignite mine. Many places disappeared with the mine exploitation: A Ponte da Pedra, Illade, A Palloza, Seara, Toiverde, O Vilar, O Meidelo, Portoferreiro, Codesás, O Seixo, Cartilida, Ribeirón, Carboeiro, Santa Eulalia, O Portorroibo, Almigonde, Carracedo, A Barosa, Os Mouros…

...And with the places people also disappeared; inhabitants generation over generation living there, and also their history disappeared.

This monument was erected in 1990 to remember those places no longer existing. We can see the façade of an old house. Looking inside through the window we do not see the house interior, but the lake where all those places full of life used to be.

The Praza da Lembranza is in A Casilla, near the Lake.
