Praza do Hospital (Hospital Square)
It is one of the oldest squares in the village.
It is the first modern square in the council and had a bandstand for the celebration of the festivities. It takes its name after the town's old hospital for the poor and pilgrims which was located there; it was taken outside the walls of the medieval town, probably in the 19th century during the cholera epidemic that devastated Galicia.
The square is located in a neuralgic point of the town. It had many different names such as Plaza de Alfonso XIII (Alfonso XIII square), Plaza del Cruceiro (Calvary square), Plaza del Escolar (Scholar square). It was also called Praza das Zocas (Clog square) for a long time, with granite sculptures commemorating the clogs. After several changes in name and furniture, the square regained its original name Praza do Hospital.
The calvary that can currently be seen in front of the church in the neighbourhood of As Veigas was originally built in this square. Its location was at the old crossroads between the royal road to Castile and the road that led to Ortigueira and Bares.
