Auditorium Cinema Alovi

Theatre, cinema and culture in a beautiful building which held the cinema designed by the architect Nemesio López Rodríguez.
The cinema Alovi is one of the main places for culture in As Pontes. It was born as a commercial cinema and it was the work of the architect Nemesio López Rodríguez, who took as reference the Teatro Principal from Santiago to make this building.

It was opened on the 1st of january of 1951. The first film shown was “La Duquesa de Benamejí”, a film based on a play with the same name written by the Machado brothers.

In 1989 the Council of As Pontes bought the building, after the closure of the cinema in 1985. It was remodelled to be the Auditorio Municipal. In 1996 new works were carried out inside to improve the stage, dressing rooms, and also the roof.

Nowadays theatre, music and dance shows, cinema, conferences and any other cultural representation are carried out inside it. It is also used as rehersal room for different cultural associations.
